Abstract

The research reflects on the inclusion of Norse Mythology and Viking Age Scandinavia themes in the popular history book Illustreret Danmarkshistorie for folket (Danish Illustrated History for the People, 1854), by the Danish Adam Fabricius. We use as the main theoretical element considerations from the historian Niels Kayser Nielsen on the uses of the Nordic past, and as methodology the visual culture from the perspective of John Harvey. It was concluded that this reception of Norse myths was linked to a specific form of use of Norse history, namely, the use of female symbols by the Danish nationalism.
