This article deals with Walter Benjamin's romantic Utopia, aiming to show: if primitive communism corresponds to the lost paradise, the utopia of a classless society corresponds to the messianic kingdom and the social revolution to the messianic interruption of history. It is not about going back to the past. The nostalgic feeling for the vanished community world, melancholy in the face of the destruction brought about by modernity, becomes, in Benjamin, a critical and subversive energy, invested in utopian and messianic hope and revolutionary struggle for the emancipated future.
