REPRESENTAÇÕES FEMININAS NA OBRA OS SETE PECADOS DA CAPITAL DE SANDRA PESAVENTO

Abstract

This article aims to highlight the importance of the book Os Sete Pecados da Capital, written by the historian Sandra Jatahy Pesavento, to the historians of the called History of Women. From the analysis of a diverse set of sources, Sandra Pesavento, makes possible for us to understand the representations published by masculine elite about women who lived in Porto Alegre, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Despite the misogynist thought present at the documents collected by the historian, it is possible to see women's struggle to survive in a city marked by a series of transformations in its urban space and the transition from the slave labor to the wage labor.
