Abstract

This article explores the history of theater in Maranhão during the 1970s and 90s from a decolonial perspective, grounded in the theories of researchers such as Boaventura de Sousa Santos and Zulma Palermo. A literature review of texts by Maranhão researchers revealed that Aldo Leite, Tácito Borralho, and Luiz Pazzini were pioneers in introducing aesthetic and methodological innovations. However, it also highlights the absence of studies addressing these practices from a decolonial perspective, indicating a significant research gap in this area.
