Abstract

This work has the objective to reconstruct a part of the Instituto de Ciências Humanas e Sociais´s” (ICHS/UFOP) history, focusing the political and internal contestations about the new democratization process in Brazil. The reality is centered on the antagonism that exists between distinct groups inside the Institute, while the first one is local and traditional; the other is dynamic and expansionist. The political articulation of these conflicts happened, as we will show, about the contestations of the academic curriculum of the History course, about the power distribution, the morality, etc. In this way, the work is trying to understand the process of memory construction of ICHS, which has a close relation with these conflicts. We point out this formation in relation to the different notions of democracy that appears in this conflict.
