Abstract

This essay examines the dogmatic thinking and conceptions of art guiding the Uruguayan Joaquin Torres-Garcia, presented in the magazine Circulo y Cuadrado (1936-43) and contextualize them with their career, their artistic practices and strategies in the emerging field of consecration art of Montevideo. In this study integrates the goal of social regeneration and ethics coveted by many artists in the face of conflicts between the great powers and the global crisis in an attempt to establish social order.
