POWER RELATIONS IN THE RED AND THE BLACK:

CHRONICLE OF A CHANGING SYSTEM - AN INTERDISCIPLINARY READING FROM THE LITERATURE

Abstract

In the present article, we seek to analyze aspects of the novel The Red and The Black that marked the end of the eighteenth century and early nineteenth as a period of a deep transformation of the Interstate Capitalist System. The Stendhal's narrative provides evidences of changes that have taken place in the dynamics of power relationships at the time, and consequently in the world power hierarchy. Following the path of the young protagonist Julien, we intend to raise some reflections on possible systemic changes introduced by the French Revolution and the figure of Napoleon Bonaparte. In addition, through an interdisciplinary perspective, we intend to contribute to studies that seek alternative ways to think of the World System operating logic.
