O APRENDIZADO DA TÉCNICA FOTOGRÁFICA POR MEIO DOS PERIÓDICOS E MANUAIS – SEGUNDA METADE DO SÉCULO XIX

This article explores two foreign newspapers and guides and a few photographic manuals from the second half of the nineteenth century, pointing out the fact that this was the only possible written theory available for the apprenticeship of the complex technique. The newspapers, the guides and the manuals oriented on how to build a studio, about the necessary equipment, the mysteries of the chemistry and optic that the technique required, of how to pose the clients for the portraits, etc. Along with the theory, there came the practice and, through trial and error, and some nice results, new photographers were established in many cities and in different countries.
