Abstract

This article analyses A Moratória (play by Jorge Andrade, 1955), focusing how this author worked out with Time and Space concepts in that play, as well as how he relates present and past, urban and rural universes. The play’s plot is the impoverishment crisis and the decadence of an old landowner family, at the hinterland of São Paulo, Brazil, due to the Wall Street Crash’s (1929) effects on Brazilian coffee economy. Thus, a short historical context was written, in an economic and political perspective, aiding the understanding of the play.
