AN ANALYSIS OF THE INFANTILE WORK "BREAD AND CIRCUS"

Abstract

The present study consists of analyzing the contemporary children's literary work: "Bread and Circus" by the authors of Minas Gerais: Leo Cunha and André Salles-Coelho, observing the cultural diversity and identity aspects present in the artwork. It is presumed that the work problematizes cultural diversity, social and personal difference, as well as the question of identity and social exclusion. Thus, the authors construct a discourse about social diversity, allowing children to reflect on themselves and the other through social interaction, providing the process of identity construction, becoming capable to reflect on the cultural values ​​present in the society in which they live. This article stands out as a methodology of intensive reading of the work "Bread and Circus", in order to identify in the narrative how it presents cultural diversity and identity. In the alternative, subsidiary concepts extracted from Discourse Analysis were applied: Mainguenau (1989, 1996, 2001) and Charaudeau (2010a, 2010b, 2016). Based on the study data, we perceive cultural elements introducing in the narratives that contributes to the discussion of cultural diversity and identity, allowing the children a reflection that there are groups that are different from each other, but the rights between them are correlated.
